Its a Signature Quilt Parade!!!!

First I have to tell you about this place before we hit the parade!  We moved from Brooklyn, New York to the small town of Spring Hill, Florida when I was 8 years old.  And when I say small, I mean small! There was a place called The little Red Schoolhouse ........ This place was the gathering place for anything crafty and also the town library.  It was very cute inside and I can remember walking into the building the air conditioning would welcome you in with a blast.  Florida is HOT and I mean HOT!  I beelined outta there when I turned 21 for a job in Denver, Colorado with Frontier Airlines.  But I have the fondest memories of the Lil' Red School House, every Tuesday evening my mother and sisters and I would go and do ceramics, that was the big craft back then (think 70's)..... to the left of this building is the community baseball field I used to play on growing up.  I belonged to the city league Suncoast Ecologists.  To the right of the building was the community center where they held wedding receptions and meetings and the annual Chicken Pluckin Contest.....yep you read that right, check out that link....I am even in that photo of everyone on the stage, I am the little girl all the way on the right on the ground up against the stage with my hand on my hip! hahahaha!    I scrapped this page back in 2008 and posted it on my other blog of whose password I can't remember nor would BlogSpot release so I had to start this blog....oh well....its mainly scrapbooking stuff....browse around if you so feel inclined. Okay funny story over....

ANYWAY, knowing my LOVE for this place of fond memories when I was browsing the pages of Kathleens book that we are working out of I spotted this little quilt and thought YEP!!!  Its next!
So here you go for next Quilt Along for August!   SO HERE IT IS!!!! AUGUST QUILT ALONG!!!!

Hiroshima Needles......

Well I caved!   I have been hearing all about these needles and how wonderful they are.....how you will sew like "butter".   I had to know for myself and so I purchased #9 quilting needles and #9 embroidery needles.

They are packaged real cute !
And when you open them they come like this"...........

DARLING!  But they better be, they were a bit spendy....$7.99 for 8 needles.

The needle goes through more then 30 processes to make sure they are safe and high quality. They are known for  smooth fabric piercing and flexibility.

So I will let you know how they are!  Hopefully they will be smooth as butter!

Mini Cherry quilt Parade!

Well I have to say this was a favorite of mine....this was by far a very easy quilt and the directions were so simple...easy to follow!   I only received one entry which is fine but I would encourage you to try your hand at this mini!

Joann over at Fig tree Quilts said we could feature this quilt and so it goes.  It may be a small parade, but it's a great parade!  If you haven't tried yours yet, go ahead and make it, it only took me two hours!

Mindy made this great interpretation of the mini.  I like the way she turned half the other direction and added the cornerstones...very nice job Mindy!

And mine....I am going to bind it in a really cute red gingham print...will post it when it's complete!  If you finish yours , send me a photo and I would be happy to post it.

Stay tuned......

Having a hard time uploading today, please stay tuned for the cherry quilt parade....I will post it as soon as my computer cooperates.  So sorry......

I have ALWAYS wanted to make one of these....for like years!  Do you know what your going to put
in the writing part?  I might....definitely thinking on it!

Okay so here we go with the parade! Here is mine, I chose reproduction Civil War Prints.  My décor is Colonial so this just fits right in.

Next up we have Carol , she doesn't have a blog but check out the awesome way she displayed her quilt!

Sue did an awesome job and I just love the colors, and those stars! WOW

Terri did a marvelous job and displayed hers on a crib her GREAT grandfather made for her when she was a little girl, it fits perfectly.

Sandy did a lovely job on her quilt and I really like the red border, really pops this quilt.

Mandy from the UK  made this lovely log cabin, loving the cheddar color!!

Mickey found us on Kathleen Kelly's board and decided to join us!  Her little quilt is special as she had just completed a large sized log cabin for her son an had enough scraps to make this for his room.  Its always a plus when we can use up our scraps AND coordinated it with something else!

A Great Find!!

The other day I was in my LQS (local Quilt Store) just browsing around and stumbled upon these:

Aren't they great!  What are they you ask?  Thread Holders!!!! G E N I U S!!!!!!  If you look close in this picture you will see the thread in the hole .

You set the container lid side down and just pull the amount you need!  No more chasing the ball on the floor when it slips from your hand and rolls and unravels!  AND no more taggled threads in my basket!  Woohoo!

At first I only purchased 4 of these lovelies, went home and used one.....I was taken....hook, line and sinker....so what do I do?  What any normal gal does, went back an bought them all!  I have a lot of these balls so I bought enough to put all my threads in them and have only one empty left over....cool now I will have one left to fill.

So that's my great find.....enjoy!

Busy, Busy few weeks.

Where have I been?  Well lets see....May and June proved to be a very busy couple of weeks for this family.  First up was Special Olympics Regional which the girls did really well and we are so very proud of them!

Then we opened the cabin for the season, which is great but takes a little bit of work to clean everything , sweep, restock etc....after being closed up all winter.  You can't drive up because of all the crazy amount of snow that gets up there and they don't pave all the way up because it is actually a former logging road....but that's ok, we utilize it in the spring and summer which is good enough.

During that weekend we received a voicemail.

We don't get cell reception so when we hit range on the way home we turn on our cells and retrieve all the messages.  Well we got some really bad news, my Mothers companion of 10 years passed away of a heart attack.  He was almost 70.  I feel so bad for Mom they were best friends.  My father passed away 26 years earlier so it was difficult to watch her heart break again.  She is coming out in
July as they had already planned to get away, Johns ticket was refunded and we encouraged Mom to still come out and get a change of scenery.  We are hoping for her to relocate here so time will tell.....
The next event was Special Olympics State games and it was about 1 hour from here so we decided
to get a hotel and stay the night and make a long weekend of it.( My girls are in red, the little decided to photo bomb her sister, which actually worked out because I didn't get one picture of the two of them together! go figure)   Once again the girls did well but not their best.  One of their teammates on their 4 x 100 relay didn't show up or call to tell anyone so they were one man down.  The first man, which is an important place...but they pulled another athlete from their team and used her, which she
never had done a running relay, just walking but she was such a trooper and did her best and we are very proud of her stepping up and helping out the team.  They placed 6th.....they usually place 1st/Gold.  But it made them see how it really is important to do their part and show up.  Lesson learned.

Then there was the Shine Prom and both girls attended with their dates.  This is a Prom put on for all the Special Needs Adults.  A mother started this about 3 years ago because her son, who is autistic, never did attend his High School Prom so she put one on for all the adults and boy has it grown!!!  They had a super time and looks so very nice!
Finally there was a Bridal shower and a wedding.....we threw the shower for my daughters friend, my daughter was the Maid of Honor.  It was a beautiful day and an outdoor wedding.....and that now brings us up to date.  WHEW!!!!

So now I can resume blogging....don't have much on the calendar until the end of the month and then a couple of weeks after that my Mom arrives.  So glad to spend time with her....in the meantime I am working on my log cabin quilt from the quilt along....I am handquilting it right now and hope to be finished with in by next week!  Looking so forward to the parade!

I am also going to have a quick but very cute quilt along posted mid month so watch for details!  This is aside from The current one at the beginning of the month...this is for the middle of the month...will post details in a day or two!  If you would like to join the Prairie children and their quilts one, hop in at anytime!

Priairie Children QUilt Along......First up!

Here is the moment we all have been waiting for!!  Do you have your book handy?  Turn to page.........................37.....................The LOG CABIN!   That is a quilt we all know and love and its one that I admire any time I see one and I hope you do too! But to be honest I don't have even ONE in my home!  The couple that I have made have all been given away as gifts....I would have to say it is the most popular pattern of all quilt patterns.
This photo is taken with permission from Kathleen Tracy'...you can find the pattern in her book Prairie Children and their Quilts , you can purchase it right here Book

Okay so you have until June 30th to finish this quilt in either Quilt Top form or completed all the way! You can use the fabric of your choice....dig in your stash or purchase new!  Then take a photo of it and email it to me at Tildagirl @ msn dot com .  If you are a Blog owner PLEASE include the link in your email to me and post your picture on your blog for the parade on July 1st!  I will post all photo's on my blog July 1st and if you provide me with your link then I will add Mr.Linky to your name and it will direct readers to your blog.  If you don't have a blog no worries just send me your photo and I will post it on my parade.  At the beginning of the parade I will post the next Quilt!   Fun Fun!!!  So get your machines ready and go!!!

My yardsale finds.....

So yesterday DH and I had to drop off some tv's at the dump and on our way back we saw a few yardsale signs....look what I found!  So excited about the Amish doll!  I have wanted on of those FOREVER...... And there she was in all her glory....with the tag still on and her name handwritten in
Katie.....I got her for $2!!!!!!!!  So excited.  The square thing with what looks like a paddle is a napkin holder the paddle keeps the napkins from blowing away, how smart is that?  Well off to a few more today!   Hope I bring home more fun things!

Schnibbles Speck

So I fell in love with this pattern, the design is so pretty and instructions uber simple.  Lots of pieces but worth it.  Carrie over at Miss Rosie's made the pattern and you actually can do it in one of two designs, x's or o's.  Since I don't like x's ( that's why they are x's lol) I did the o's!   The pattern is a little bites called "speck".  Now all I have to do is quilt it, have to think about design.  Tell me, what are you working on?

Hello!!!!!

Oh my goodness its been OVER a year!!  WHAT???? What happened?  Hmmmmm Facebook, Instagram and just plain life. I guess you can say I took...
